James Rudolph Vanderburg, 88, died Sunday February 19, 2012 at his home. Funeral services will be held at Fry-Gibbs Funeral Home 2:00 p.m. Wednesday Feb. 22, 2012 with Rev. Brad Crosswhite officiating. Burial will follow in Forest Chapel cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Tuesday 7-8 p.m. 

He was born January 11, 1924 in Chicota a son of John James and Maude Turner Carpenter Vanderburg.  He married Freta Merle Foster in Texarkanaon September 13, 1951. He served his country proudly in the Army in Company “C” 158th BN.

He was a retired truck driver. His sense of humor and playful teasing will be missed by all that knew him.

 He was preceded in death by his wife Freta, his parents; brothers George “Sonny”  Vanderburg and Kenneth Vanderburg and a sister Johnnie Smallwood. 

Survivors include children Burness (Burnie) and Kimberly Vanderburg of Novice, Fonda and James Bradberry of Parker, TX, Marilyn and Wayne Massey of Duncanville, TX;   grandchildren Alanna Vanderburg, Nolan, Nicholas and Boo Bradberry, Jonathan Massey and Jennifer Massey Holden; great-grandchildren Kason Walker, Harper, River and Jordan Bradberry, Vance and Garrett Holden; sisters Linda Thurman of Powderly and Wanda Alexander of Dallas; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. 

Pallbearers will be Boo Bradberry, Nicholas Bradberry Nolan Bradberry, Jonathan Massey, Joe Holden, Danny Walker and Honorary Pallbearer will be Charles Foster.
