NL Students Release Balloons at Children's Advocacy Center
The Child Advocacy Center invited Cheryl Vanderburg’s class from Higgins Elementary to help promote hope, healing and justice for child victims of crime in Lamar and Red River Counties by participating in the Hope Floats balloon release. The first graders joined professionals and community members at the CAC in releasing 175 balloons symbolizing the 175 children served by the center in 2013.
The balloons signified hope for child abuse victims in their darkest moments and for a brighter future. The colors represented the type of abuse each child came through the center for: 95 red for sexual abuse; 10 blue for physical abuse; 31 orange for children who witnessed abuse and/or were at risk; 18 purple for neglect; and 21 green for drug endangered children.
