Register for Saturday's 'Barking for Beauty' dog pageant

Barking_for_Beauty_low res_logoThe ‘Barking for Beauty’ dog pageant will be held today from 1-5 p.m. at PetCo, but you still have plenty of time to register at the pageant from 12-1 p.m. The event is being held to raise funds for Premier Home Care & Hospice’s ‘Beauty is Ageless’ senior pageant, which is a fundraiser for the New Hope Center of Paris homeless shelter.

‘Barking for Beauty’ is brought to you by the Lamar County Humane Association, PetCo and Premier Home Care & Hospice. PetCo will be providing each participant with a ‘goody bag’ full of surprises for your pet and the humane association will have many pets at the event ready for adoption.

The registration fee is $20, and then $10 for each additional entry into the pageant if you would like to enter multiple dogs.

The dogs will be judged in four categories, as well as an ‘overall’ winner. The categories are best costume, best personality, owner-dog look-alike, and people’s choice. Trophies will be awarded to the first place winner in each category.

In the ‘people’s choice’ category, there will be tickets that can be obtained with any kind of donation to the cause. The tickets will allow you to vote for your favorite dog and will also enter you into a raffle for many different door prizes to be won. The door prizes offered are:

  • 30 minute massage at The Rub Club – donated by The Rub Club
  • Two lunch specials at Tamolly’s – donated by Tamolly’s
  • Two Oil & Filter Changes – donated by Toyota of Paris
  • $45 gift card – donated by Cozy K-9 Cuts
  • Free bath & dip – donated by the Love Small Animal Hospital
  • Automatic Pet Waterer – donated by Atwoods
  • Necklace set – donated by Maurice’s
  • Curling iron – donated by Sally’s Beauty Supply

This will be a fun, family event with a bounce house, face painting and games. There will also be refreshments provided and water for the dogs. All dogs must be on a leash.
