United Way set to kick off 2014 fundraising campaign with Community Block Party

After a huge success at last year’s campaign kick-off event, United Way of Lamar County is set to host the 2nd annual Community Block Party and 2014 Campaign Kick-Off on Saturday, September 14, at the Red River Valley Fair Grounds.

From 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. the public is welcome in attendance at this event alongside many of the non-profit service organizations that work to help make a difference here in our community.

United Way“United Way of Lamar County and representatives from our funded partner agencies will be on hand to answer questions about the work they do in our community,” UW Executive Director April Carl said.

Participating agencies include:

  • American Red Cross
  • Habitat for Humanity
  • Boys and Girls Club
  • Children’s Advocacy Center
  • Boy Scouts NETSEO

“This is a great opportunity to learn where our community investment dollars are making an impact in Paris and Lamar County,” Carl said.

The street fair-type event will have activities and entertainment for all ages, including many games, live music, bounce houses and an adult health fair. Free food will also be available to attendees.

Returning to the Block Party this year as the main event is inspirational speaker and former professional football player Keith Davis and his associates. These former pro players will deliver a message, autographing photos following the presentation.

United Way’s mud volleyball tournament will also take place on site. Teams must consist of four players and registration is open.

New to the tournament this year is a cash prize for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place — $500, $300 and $200 — sponsored by Campbell Soup Supply Company, Edward Jones Investments – Stephen Gerrald, Guaranty Bond Bank and the Paris Police Officers Association.
