In the words or United Way of Lamar County Executive Director, April Carl, ‘the Urban Adventure Race has unknown locations, challenges (physical and mental), will be EXTREME fun and an action-packed way to support our local United Way, in order for them to serve so many of those in need in our surrounding areas.

Like several other other of the non-profits in our community — such as the Lamar County Coalition of Business, Education & Industry and the idea and success of their Mad Max Run — the United Way of Lamar County put their brains together to design an event that would not only be different than the ‘norm’, but also fun and memorable, as the idea is to make this an annual fundraiser for our branch of United Way — one of the best in the entire state of Texas, exceeding their 2013 fundraising campaign gaol by over $100,000.
The United Way’s 1st annual Urban Adventure Race will involve much more mental and fun, puzzle-like challenges rather than just a ‘foot race’ or just strength challenges, although there will be obstacles that are designed to be physically challenging.
These destinations, challenges and obstacles will be spread amongst the entire town, so that each team will reach them a number or different ways, including by vehicle.
The idea is who can get through these challenges completed the quickest and correctly — regardless whether physical, mental or down right interesting.
There can be teams that consist of 2-4 people, and you must be 18-years or older to participate in the race. A waiver of release will be signed by any and all participants that prepare to be involved in the event.
The Team Registration deadline has now been extended to Tuesday, April 2, so it is coming soon — register now! The event is set for April 6.
