Weekend Events In and Around Paris

The first weekend in May in Paris is full of outdoor events that the whole family will enjoy and it looks like the weather will be perfect.

First is the 55th Annual Paris Rodeo and Horse Club Rodeo. The rodeo is at 8pm on Friday, May 2nd and again on Saturday, May 3rd.  The Rodeo is held at the Lamar County Fairgrounds Rodeo Arena.  Admission is $10 for adults and $5 for children and tickets can be purchased at Cavendars, Big Country, Crazy House and F&F Feed in Grant, Ok. Also at the Fairgrounds this weekend is John Chisum Western Days, where you can become part of the old west. The event begins on Friday, May 2nd from 4pm-8pm and runs through Sunday until 4pm. John Chisum Western Days includes a Chuck Wagon Cook-Off on Saturday, live music, and a Western Costume Contest as well as vendors displaying old time favorites and Craft making demonstrations.  For more information, call 903-732-3869.

This Saturday is the 27th Annual Uncle Jesse Big Bass Classic at Pat Mayse Lake, Sanders Cove. The Fishing commences at 6am and participants must be in weigh-in line by 3pm. Tournament proceeds benefit multiple children’s charities of Lamar County. For more information, contact the Lamar County Chamber of Commerce at 903-784-2501.

On Friday evening, come to downtown Paris to see the “Car Cruisin” around the square to music of the ’50s and 60s. Begins at 5pm and lasts until 10pm.  There will also be a Girls Night Out starting at 5pm at Green Boutique, Soho and Creative Candy.  Stop in for some “retail therapy”.

Saturday night will also be the kickoff of Paris Downtown Association’s “Music on Main” a free concert series throughout the summer that will feature live music on the Plaza.  Music starts at the fountain at 6pm and will feature a live concert by The Draggin’ Man Band.  Come party on the Plaza.

The Farmer’s Market will be open Saturday morning from 9am-2pm and the Lamar County Master Gardeners will be holding their annual Plant Sale.  The Farmer’s Market is located on SW 1st Street in downtown Paris.

Finally, your family can head out to Roxton for the 13th Annual Roxton Hawg Waller Festival to be held on Saturday, May 3rd from 9am-3pm.  The festival includes all day entertainment, children’s activities, contest, food and more.
