Fall is here and it’s difficult to miss. The chill in the air as the trees shed their colorful leaves, the pumpkin patches, all of the spices. Perhaps the greatest indicator of the change of season in Paris is the abundance of fall activities that occur. This year’s events have already included “Party on the Plaza” and the third annual Paris Antique Fair, but the fun won’t end there. Needless to say, it is always a festive time of year and this year will be no exception.
Coming up on the roster for Paris is the 13th annual Festival of Pumpkins. Every year, the streets of downtown are decorated and prepared for this activity, which is sure to be enjoyable for everyone involved. This year, businesses in the historic downtown district are invited to show off their decorating skills in the 3rd annual Downtown Fall Window Display Contest. The judging will occur during the festival on October 26th, but businesses can begin preparation now. The contest, sponsored by the Paris Downtown Association, helps further contribute to the spirit of the season.
“Any downtown business or anything can participate,” said PDA secretary Kari Daniel. “It’s kind of just to get everybody excited about the fall and get them to clean up their windows and make them look cool for the pumpkin festival.”
Don’t be afraid to get creative and show off your fall enthusiasm for everyone to see! Cash prizes will be awarded for the top three displays. According the Daniel, first place will receive $200, second $100 and third $50.
Hopeful participants have until October 23rd to inform the PDA of their entry. For more information or to enter the contest, contact Kari Daniel at 903.785.2397.
