Utility poles removed from an area of Clarksville Street, Dowtown

The utility poles along and east of the 100 block of Clarksville Street have been removed as part of a ‘makeover’ that started in June, burying the utility wires and providing brand new sidewalks for the area.

As you drive by the two city blocks of Clarksville Street from Main St. eastward toward Cattle Drive Steakhouse on Church Street, you will notice the absence of the old utility poles.

In the early 2000s, the plaza area was refurbished. All new sidewalks were added, replacing the old ones. The utilities were buried underground; better parking was established, giving the Plaza area a complete makeover.

These new efforts were a continuation of that project, hoping to replace all the downtown sidewalks and bury utility wires to remove the poles.

The revitalization efforts are funded by the Main Street Sidewalk Replacement Grant, administered by the Texas Department of Agriculture, and is a part of the Texas Capitol Fund.  Funds also come from the City of Paris.

With the completion of this portion of Clarksville Street, five utility poles were removed, their wires placed underneath new sidewalks.

Below is a photograph of the area before the construction began.

A noticeable difference in aesthetics now that these poles have been removed.
