Clarksville May Lose Hospital
The Tyler based East Texas Medical Center announced that they will not be renewing their lease at the Clarksville location.
A statement from ETMC reads in part, “the emergency room averages less than one patient visit per hour. This lack of utilization coupled with cuts in Medicare and Medicaid reimbursements have led to unsustainable financial loses at the hospital for the past few years.”
ETMC has been in Clarksville for the past 18 years. The leases is set to expire on March 31, 2016.
The current hospital in Clarksville has thirty operating beds and offers a range of specialists including internal medicine, gastrointestinal, opthamology, cardiology, geriatric medicine and family medicine.
The Red River Hospital Authority Board is currently interviewing hospitals to take over the Clarksville facility. If a new owner cannot be located, citizens of Clarksville and Red River County will have to drive to Paris, Mt. Vernon, Mt. Pleasant, Sulphur Springs or Texarkana for the closest medical care.
