Resurfacing on Loop 286 and State Highway 24 is underway
Motorists traveling on Loop 286 in Paris and State Highway 24 in Delta County should be prepared to accommodate road construction during the next two weeks. Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) officials recently cleared Richard Drake Construction of Paris to resurface portions of both roadways, at a cost of more than $2.9 million.
The work began May 27 and should take about 15 working days to complete, weather permitting. Work crews will remove old pavement and place new pavement, while another contractor follows closely behind and places new striping on the roadways. This work is only a portion of an entire contract that includes roadways in several counties.
There will be temporary lane closures, but all sections of the roadway will be open to traffic by the end of each day. It is important that motorists heed and obey all traffic signs.
“There will be flagmen present to hold traffic as needed,” said Richard Harper, TxDOT area engineer based in Paris. “This is complex work that involves many people and several pieces of heavy equipment. For the safety of both the traveling public and the workers on site, we ask drivers to slow down and avoid distraction.”
Access to adjacent properties will be maintained throughout the duration of work.
