Keith Mitchell to seek re-election to Precinct 4 spot on Lamar County Commissioners Court
Keith Mitchell will be a candidate in the March 4 Republican Primary for re-election to the Lamar County Commissioners Court representing Precinct 4.
“It has been very challenging and also encouraging for me have the opportunity to work for all the citizens of Lamar County and especially the citizens of the fourth precinct during my first term,” Mitchell said.
“The Lamar County Commissioners Court has had many challenges during the past few years, with each challenge tied to funding,” he added.
“Our economic growth is directly tied to good transportation routes. Lamar County will continue to prosper if the funding continues for maintenance and improvement of our current state and local roads.”
Mitchell said it is important for members of the commissioners court to work both individually and cooperatively with others, depending upon the issue.
“I have studied and looked into every important issue and cast votes as a commissioner that I felt were in the best overall interests of Lamar County citizens,” he said.
“One area of my responsibility is the maintenance of county roads. In the past three years the Precinct 4 road crew has taken advantage of the drought conditions. The past dry summers have offered opportunity and access into normally wet stream crossing areas,” he noted.
That has allowed his crew to make roadway drainage improvements at three major stream crossing locations and two minor stream crossings, he said.
One location, on the Walnut Ridge to Novice route, is currently in mid-construction phase. Completion of that project is scheduled for late fall of 2014, Mitchell said.
