The Paris City Council meets tonight, Monday, June 9th, at 5:30pm in the City Council Chambers.
One of the items on the agenda is the hiring of Mr. Jerry McDaniel as the new Public Works Director. This position has been vacant since January 2013. Earlier this year, the city council instructed the City Manager John Godwin to hire a new director. Funding for the new public works director is available within the current Public Works Administration budget.
Mr. McDaniel is currently employed by the City of Greenville, and will be at the meeting this evening.
The City Charter requires that the council approve the employment of directors, but it is the city manager who has the sole authority under the charter to hire and fire city employees.
Also on tonight’s agenda is the presentation by Melissa Cook, on the future year’s operating budgets for the Paris Visitors and Convention Council and the Lamar County Chamber of Commerce. Both include budget requests that are increasing over the current year due to anticipated revenue increases.
The city council will also look at the 2014 water and wastewater cost of service study; look to hire professional services to implement the replacement of the downtown sidewalks though a matching grant; approve a interlocal agreement with the Paris Police department to apply for a grant; consider leasing a second acre to the Red River Valley Veterans Memorial.
