Chairman Lynn Patterson has announced that Lamar County Crime Stoppers is celebrating January 2014 as Crime Stoppers Month.
“January of each year has been celebrated as Crime Stoppers Month since officially being proclaimed in September 1986 at the Crime Stoppers International conference in Edmonton, Alberta,” LCCS executive director William Heuberger said. “It is a time when Crime Stoppers programs around the world highlight their success.”
Since 1986 Lamar County Crime Stoppers tips have led to the arrest of 2,059 suspects and cleared 3,710 cases. Rewards totaling $297,120 have been paid to 988 tipsters. Property with a value of $2,129,589 has been recovered and drugs and narcotics with a value of $971,927 have been seized due to Lamar County Crime Stoppers tips, Heuberger said.
Since 1998, Lamar County Crime Stoppers has celebrated this honorary month by doubling rewards up to $1,000 maximum for information submitted during January 2014 that leads to the arrest of a suspect or suspects wanted for criminal activity.
“Governor Rick Perry has declared January as Crime Stoppers Month in Texas and Lamar County Crime Stoppers has requested each city in Red River and Lamar County to do the same,” Heuberger said.
As of last Thursday, proclamations have been received from Red River County and the cities of Clarksville and Reno. Lamar County Commissioners issued a proclamation during their meeting Monday, January 13.
