Thelma Dangerfield is $10,000 dollars richer after Tuesday night’s ‘Shop Local’ $10,000 giveaway, hosted by the Lamar County Chamber of Commerce.
She held the first ticket that was called, which she purchased at Paris Lumber who will receive $1,000 for supplying the winning ticket.
Mrs. Dangerfield said that the ice storm had taken out some of her windows in her home, so she went to Paris Lumber Tuesday for new ones. It was this fateful window purchase that also got her the winning ticket.
When asked what she planned to do with the money, Mrs. Dangerfield replied, “I have a 15-year-old grandson that I’m going to put through college, and I’m 75 and need some help.”
Thousands of people surrounded Culbertson Fountain to hear the winning ticket number. Mayor AJ Hashmi was there to congratulate the winner once announced.
Randy Nation called out the winning number, which could also be seen on digital signs that had been posted at different corners of the Plaza. Once the number was called out, the winner had five minutes to make it to the fountain.
After a couple minutes passed from announcing the first number, Mrs. Dangerfield quietly came forward and said, “I have it.”
Mrs. Dangerfield retired in Paris in 1993 and is an active volunteer at the Paris genealogy library.
This was the fourth year for the Lamar County Chamber of Commerce’s Holiday in Paris ‘Shop Local’ $10,000 Drawing.
