After the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) and Texas Transportation Commission approved funding for the project in July, the large scale rehabilitation and resurfacing of five miles of FM 195 will begin next week and could take several months to complete, according to TxDOT spokesman, Tray Turner.
A pre-construction and safety meeting was held Thursday with the contractor, Texana Land & Asphalt, Inc., and TxDOT representatives to coordinate this rehabilitation. Texana Land & Asphalt, Inc., which is based in Sulphur Springs, was awarded the contract in July for $1,632,328.37.
“This road work on FM 195 will start at 5.2 miles north of Loop 286 and end two miles south of FM 906 for a total length of approximately five miles,” Turner said. “The work will take about four months to complete.”
The project will consist of roadway repairs to sections of the existing pavement and placing a new pavement surface, as well as striping and raised pavement markers, according to Turner. Milling sections of existing pavement surface will begin early this week.
TxDOT urges you to be mindful of your surroundings and be careful in the construction zone, as this work will be performed under traffic. The project will require temporary lane closures during the day, and there will be flagmen present to hold traffic.
“It is very important that all traffic signs are obeyed,” Turner said. “This work involves many people and several pieces of heavy equipment.”
For both the safety of the traveling public and the workers on site, TxDOT asks drivers to slow down and avoid distraction.
Access to adjacent properties will be maintained throughout the duration of the contract work, Turner said.
Safety is a priority in this work zone and TxDOT urges the public to observe warning signs during the construction of this project. It is TxDOT’s mission to work with others to provide safe and reliable transportation solutions for Texas.
