The construction for the new interchange on the South West Loop 286 at FM 137 is on schedule to be completed next month. The temporary stop signs along the Loop intersection with the ramps for new overpass will be removed. The Loop 286 traffic will no longer be required to stop where FM 137 intersected the loop. The inside lane closures will also be removed once the stop signs are removed. Traffic at this location will have two lanes of operation in each direction of travel. TxDOT urges the traveling public to take extra caution, slow down, and observe the construction speed zone of 50 mph and warning signs during this final stage of the construction of this project.
The traffic patterns along Loop 286 have changed with the traffic using the new bridge. The new concrete safety barrier constructed in the Loop median will permanently restrict left turn and crossing movement at this location on the loop. Loop 286 traffic will need to take the new ramps to access FM 137.
Safety in this work zone is a high priority. The Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) awarded this contract on Loop 286 in Lamar County to Billy Cummings, Incorporated for $3,360,694.18 in December 2010 and should be completed in August 2012.
