The construction for the new interchange on the South West Loop 286 at FM 137 is on schedule to be completed this summer. The traffic patterns along Loop 286 will change with the traffic on the new bridge. Vehicles on FM 137 will no longer be able to turn left or go straight through the current intersection on Loop 286. Loop 286 traffic will need to take the new ramps to access FM 137. A new concrete safety barrier will be placed along the median on Loop 286 to restrict movement across the loop. The inside lane closures will remain in place until the safety barrier is completed to a point where the inside lanes can be re-opened to traffic. The median and inside lanes are currently closed with the outside lane open in each direction in the work area.
The intersection of FM 137 and Loop 286 will remain in a four way stop condition until the traffic barrier is constructed. This is necessary for traffic to safely negotiate this intersection during this final stage of construction. TxDOT urges the traveling public to take extra caution, slow down, and observe the construction speed zone of 50 mph and warning signs during construction of this project. Safety in this work zone is a high priority.
The Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) awarded this contract on Loop 286 in Lamar County to Billy Cummings, Incorporated for $3,360,694.18 in December 2010 and it is on schedule for completion this summer.
