The official weigh-out for participants of the Lighten Up East Texas (LUET) Weight Loss Challenge is now thru Saturday, May 31st. The weight loss challenge, sponsored in part by Brookshire Grocery Company and Allen Samuels Tyler, is a local movement to make East Texas a healthier community in which to live. The LUET Celebration and Prize Ceremonies will take place on Thursday, June 12, 2014, on the patio of Brookshires FRESH in Tyler, Texas from 5:30 p.m. until 8:30 p.m. Participants need not be present to win.
Fit City Paris joined forces with Fit City Tyler’s coalition and their regional weigh loss challenge – Lighten Up East Texas. Lighten Up East Texas is a regional weight loss challenge, created by the Fit City Coalition, in which individuals, teams and communities have competed to lose weight and improve their health. Participants will receive entries into a grand prize drawing for every 5 percent of weight lost, tracked from an official weigh-in at the start and the official weigh-out at the end of the challenge.
Donated by Allen Samuels Tyler, the grand prize drawing will include a new 2014 Dodge Dart! Other great prizes include four $1,000 Brookshire’s gift cards, redeemable at any Brookshires or Super1Foods grocery stores. Smaller prizes will also be randomly selected from returning participants who lost less than 5% of their starting weight.
“Our goal for this event was to encourage East Texans to take control of their health, to make smart and healthy choices, to make time for physical activity and to ultimately lose weight in a healthy way,” says George Roberts, Chief Executive Officer of NET Health and Co-Chair of Fit City.
“In Lamar County, we had 252 people register for the challenge which had a combined total of 50,342.4 pounds. During this weigh out period from May 19th to May 31st, we will be able to determine how many pounds people in Lamar County lost. We hope that our community was able to start on the road to a healthy lifestyle by losing weight one pound at a time. Our goal for Lighten Up East Texas was to encourage Lamar County to focus on their health, to get in shape, making eating right a priority and the ultimate goal to lose weight in a healthy way,” says Emily Neeley, Coalition Coordinator for Paris-Lamar County Health District.
Participants are encouraged to log their ending weight between now and March 31st at one of the weigh in stations listed below or at their participating workplace.
