World renowned Christian educator, missionary and speaker to be in Paris on August 28
For I determined to know nothing among you except Jesus Christ, and Him crucified.
— 1 Corinthians 2:2
Those are the first words at the top of Margaret Ashmore‘s website and are the words that she conducts her life by — spreading the ‘Good News’ of Jesus to anyone and everyone that attend her speeches, conferences and/or retreats — and those in between.
Ashmore, a renowned Christian speaker and educator, has conducted Bible studies, conferences and retreats all over the world, and on Thursday, August 28, she will make a free appearance at the New Hope Center of Paris for dinner and a lesson on the ‘Woman at the Well’ from the Gospel of John.
Margaret is the little sister to the New Hope Center’s program development coordinator and grant writer, Lou Ashmore Brown, who has talked her sister into coming to Paris to do a free ‘small’ conference for the residents at the shelter and anyone else in the community that would like to attend.
“We will eat and learn and sing and enjoy each other and the Word,” Lou said with excitement.
The dinner will begin at 5:30 p.m. and will consist of soup and cornbread. After dinner there will be singing and fellowship, leading up to a special lesson about Jesus and his encounter with the ‘Woman at the Well’.
The event will likely end around 8 p.m. or so, according to Lou. If you are interested in coming, please contact the New Hope Center at (903) 783-0353, and let them know if you are bringing a spouse or anyone so that there can be enough soup and cornbread for everyone.
As a Christian based organization, this will be an honor for New Hope and its residents, where it is the hope and pray that they will take a wealth of learning, wisdom, hope and joy from their time spent with Ms. Ashmore.
Margaret has spoken all over the country and done several overseas missions in Nepal, India, Africa, Israel and Ireland.
Ashmore’s training and service includes:
- Courses in Nouthetic Counseling by Jay Adams
- Equipped to Counsel course through Denton Bible and Metro Bible Church
- Attended Dallas Theological Seminary’s Lay Institute for 4 years
- Evangelism Explosion (James Kennedy) for 4 years
- Teacher for Denton Bible Church’s Lay Institute
- Teacher of women’s studies at Denton Bible Church for 20 years
- Lay counseling for Denton Bible Church for 20 years
From Ashmore’s website she says, “In my travels I find countless women, who are like the woman “incurably sick for 12 years had endured much at the hands of many physicians, and had spent all that she had and was not helped at all, but rather had grown worse (Mark 5:26).”
“They are weary of the superficial healing they are receiving from the talk shows, the latest pop psychology trend or even in some churches,” Ashmore says. “But when they hear that Jesus Christ is sufficient for every need of the human heart, indeed the great Physician and mighty Counselor, able to heal and restore and give eternal life the joy cannot be contained!”
She continues, “It is my deepest desire to see godly women raised up and equipped by the Word of God to understand His design and purpose for women, whether single or married with children – and to counsel them in the blessed confines of the Scriptures alone so that they would discover Christ’s all sufficient grace.”
Margaret is under the authority of the Denton Bible Church’s elder board, as well as the church’s pastor, Tom Nelson, where she has been a member since 1980.
Under this authority, she meets with the board and pastor on a regular basis for prayer and accountability, submitting all recordings of her talks to them so to make sure that she is maintaining the integrity of the scriptures. She also currently serves on the board of the Association of Biblical Counselors.
After she speaks at New Hope, her next stop in her missionary journey is at Calvary Chapel Spring Valley in Murrieta, California.
“We love you all, and we are so excited that we might get to spend this time together,” New Hope’s Lou Ashmore Brown said. “And…I really love my little sister and you will love her, too.”

WHAT OTHERS SAY ABOUT MARGARET ASHMORE (from www.margaretashmore.com)
“We had the distinct privilege of having Margaret Ashmore as our retreat speaker. I believe in my 20 years of being a Christian I would have to say that she is the BEST women’s retreat speaker, I have ever heard. These sentiments were felt not only by myself but also by all 500 women who attended this retreat. The mixture of Biblical truths, humor, personal experience, and seriousness was perfect in bringing across the message that needed to go forth during the weekend. In addition to her amazing teaching, she also made herself available and personal with my ladies. I appreciated the way in which she gave of her free time to get to know them and love all over them.”

This year, my reflection has been shaped by a conference I attended last weekend. A woman by the name of Margaret Ashmore was the speaker, and the topic of her lectures was sin. Her talks were definitely sobering and they gave me many things to contemplate. One statement in particular shook my view of the world. Margaret told us boldly, “ We are not here on this earth for our own pleasure. Our purpose in life is to glorify God.” I guess somewhere in the back of my mind, I always knew this to be true. I began to think, how will I have to live differently if I live like I KNOW this to be true?
