State Rep. George Lavender (District 1) Visited Paris Regional Medical Center

On February 17, we had the honor of welcoming Representative George Lavender to Paris Regional Medical Center for a Project Reveal at the site of our new Cardiovascular Operating Room. During his visit, we will share some of our recent advancements to the Heart Hospital, including the new cardiovascular ICU and surgical suites. Rep. Lavender will also have the opportunity to meet with members of our Medical Staff and Board.

Rep. Lavender lives in Texarkana, Texas with his wife, Jan. He has served in the Texas House of Representatives since 2010 and currently serves on the Homeland Security & Public Safety Committee, Energy Council, House Research Organization, Interim Manufacturing Committee, and numerous caucuses. Over the years, Rep. Lavender has been an advocate for Red River Army Depot and the interests of East Texas in the ongoing debate over water.

A Texan through and through, Rep. Lavender is passionate about the health and wellbeing of his family, friends, and fellow community members in East Texas. We’re excited to have him visit us and share with him what we’re doing to keep our community healthy and happy.

February is Heart Month

February is Heart Month, and we’re doing our part to help raise awareness of heart disease. On Friday, February 7, PRMC participated in a “GO RED” Jump Rope for Heart & Zumbathon. At this event, community members participated in activities and learned about how to live a heart-healthy lifestyle. PRMC staff members also provided free blood pressure checks.

Heart disease is a concern here in Paris and northeast Texas. That’s why we’ve made investments to The Heart and Vascular Center at PRMC during the past year. We have updated our 12-bed cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit, our 16-bed cardiac inpatient unit, our two cardiac catheterization labs, and our various cardiovascular surgical suites. We’ve also updated the operating room to include the most innovative equipment and technology, including state-of-the-art cardiac monitoring system, digital image management system, and new 64-slice CT scan machine. These upgrades help meet the needs in our community.

At The Heart and Vascular Center, we don’t just want to treat heart disease, we want to prevent it. Through our physicians and staff and ongoing community education, we want to reduce the rate of heart disease in our community. The Heart and Vascular Center at PRMC is the region’s most comprehensive cardiac care center and gives people in our community local access to advanced heart care. This means less travel to Dallas for complex cardiac procedures and operations – patients can receive treatment and recover right here in Paris.

Did You Know?   Heart disease is the #1 cause of death for both men and women. In fact, more women die from heart disease than from breast cancer.
