Paris man arrested for theft after being followed home by store employees

Paris police suburbanBrookshire’s Grocery employees called Paris police about 4:30 p.m. Wednesday to report that a man left the store without paying for merchandise.

Meanwhile, they followed him out of the store and to the 500 block of West Provine Street, where police officers found him in possession of the stolen merchandise and took him into custody, police department spokesman Curtis Garrett said.

The man, identified as Timothy Decarlos Sims, 39, was arrested on a theft charge that was enhanced to a felony when it was discovered he had three prior convictions for theft.

Garrett said Paris police responded Wednesday to 84 calls for service, resulting in seven arrests.

Shortly before midnight Wednesday, officers answered a call regarding a 56-year-old man’s complain that he was robbed at his residence in the 1300 block of Bonham Street.

The man said when answered a knock at his front door, two men — one described as in his mid-50s and the other in his mid-20s — shoved the door open, knocking him to the floor. They took his wallets and several items from his residence, he told officers.

The man declined to seek medical treatment, and the investigation continues, Garrett said.
