Incumbents won the day in two local primary races being decided in runoff elections Tuesday.
In the race for Justice of the Peace Precinct 5 Place 2, incumbent Gene C. Hobbs Jr. earned 901 votes, or 59.67 percent of the 1,510 ballots cast. Challenger Curtis Garrett, the Paris Police Department spokesman, garnered 609 votes, or 40.33 percent.
Precinct 5 Constable Jimmy Hodges won 930 of 1,380 votes cast, defeating challenger Gerry Don Hines 67.39 percent to 32.61 percent.
Neither race has a Democrat challenger to face in November. In the general election, County Judge Chuck Superville will face Republican challenger Mike Malone, the former Paris city manager; Treasurer Shirly Fults will face Republican challenger Melanie Clifford; and Precinct 2 Commissioner Lonnie Layton faces Republican challenger David Niblett.
