Live Life to the Healthiest… A Weekly Newlsletter from Paris Regional Medical Center on eParisExtra.com.

ralphhallprmcU.S. Congressman Ralph Hall, R-Rockwall, Praises Paris Regional Medical Center During Visit to the Hospital

On January 17, we had the distinct privilege of welcoming Congressman Ralph Hall to Paris Regional Medical Center to tour our new surgical wing, learn about our state-of-the-art da Vinci Surgical System, and meet members of our Medical Staff.

During his visit, Congressman Hall lauded PRMC for our high-quality facilities and the care our doctors, nurses, and staff provide to the people of Paris, emphasizing how incredibly important it is for a community to have access to a good hospital and skilled medical professionals. While at the hospital, the Congressman greeted a number of PRMC employees in his genuinely folksy way, met with PRMC’s board members over lunch, and shared coffee at the hospital with several local community leaders.

Congressman Hall has represented much of Northeast Texas in Congress since 1980, promoting the science, space, and energy industries in Texas. We greatly appreciate his support and that he took the time to visit us here in Paris.

Did You Know? Congressman Hall served in World War II as a lieutenant (senior grade) aircraft carrier pilot for the U.S. Navy from 1942-1945.

During Congressman Hall’s visit, we were able to show him one of our newest technological investments, our da Vinci Surgical System. In fact, the Congressman gave the robot a test drive himself, picking up a penny with the robotic arm of the practice model robot.

Technology like this requires an upfront investment – both in financial resources and time spent training our doctors and staff. Last week, Dr. Fred Williams successfully completed three test cases with the robot and is now using the robot for actual patient cases. We have an additional 10 physicians currently being trained and more test procedures planned for this week.

The robot is a tool we’re really excited about here at PRMC because it will help our patients recover faster than other, more invasive treatment options. It will also allow patients to have access to the most advanced treatment options without the need to travel far from home.

Did You Know?  100% of top-ranked U.S. hospitals own at least one da Vinci Surgical System.

doctor HaitiParis Regional Medical Center CEO and Staff to Travel to Haiti to Help Build Hospital February 8-14

Paris Regional Medical Center’s parent company, RegionalCare Hospital Partners, is sponsoring 11 hospital staff and board members to travel to Haiti to help with the construction of a new hospital.

RegionalCare believes the “heart of healthcare is service to others,” and hospitals, like Paris Regional Medical Center, live this mission every day. Now, some of our members will get to share their time and talents with the people of Thomazeau, Haiti, an impoverished city of about 200,000 people, 30 minutes outside of Port-au-Prince.

Live Beyond, a Nashville-based non-profit, is in the long-term process of building a hospital, chapel, primary and secondary schools, and a farm to help with the ongoing disaster relief needed after the earthquake in 2010. This program is dear to board member and former football coach Gene Stallings. His daughter, Laurie Vanderpool, and her husband, Dr. David Vanderpool, a trauma surgeon, are founders of the non-profit, Live Beyond, and are living in Haiti during the construction.

Not only is this project incredibly important for the people of Haiti – bringing vital health care and resources to a remote area much in need – but it’s also important for our people at PRMC to have opportunities like this to serve in a more global setting.

Did You Know?  In addition to building hospitals, Live Beyond also serves third-world countries through the establishment of water purification systems and microfinance.
