Donna Willison Head will be the speaker, talking about “The Campbell /Willison Families of Lamar Co, Texas Area.”
She will also touch on the subject of how she organizes her files. Ms. Head was born in the John T. White community near Fort Worth.
All of her mother’s family — parents, three brothers, two sisters, and two sons — lived within walking distance of each other.
In 1960, she, her parents and one brother moved to Antlers, Okla., to take care of her father’s parents.
Ms. Head graduated from Antlers High School in 1969 and immediately started to work in radio and newspaper. After almost 20 years in the McCurtain County area, Donna decided to retire, but that didn’t last long.
She became a volunteer for the American Red Cross, serving the agency for 18 years, including most of the major disasters across the United States and with the last five as the Invoice Review Lead at the National Headquarters in Washington, D.C. She retired from the Red Cross last November.
In 2006, Ms. Head and her husband Wayne, who retired from PSO/AEP after 35 years, moved from Idabel, Okla., to Hugo, Okla. She now enjoys working on her family genealogy and hand quilting.
In Choctaw County she serves on the Circus City Museum and Park board, RSVP board, and is the president of the Choctaw County Genealogical Society.
Her hobbies are playing music with her husband, the three-time Oklahoma senior state fiddling champion, who plays fiddle, guitar and mandolin. Donna plays back-up piano and guitar along with eight other instruments.
They also enjoy going places in their recreational vehicle.
Donna has a son, a step daughter, three grandchildren, one step-grandson, and one great-grandson.
One does not have to be a member of the Lamar County Genealogical Society to attend meetings.
“Please come and bring a friend,” an association spokesman said. “Door prizes will be given.”
The Lamar County Genealogical Society Library is located in the south end of the historical Santa Fe Railroad Depot, at 1135 Bonham St. in Paris.
