Paris Independent Bikers plan to kick the holidays off a little early this year with Barbeque For Christmas on Oct. 5.
The bikers are raising funds to help seniors celebrate Christmas at Paris Healthcare Nursing Home.
“We’ve adopted them, and we do Christmas for them. Every resident gets a secret Santa gift they specifically wanted,” said Amy Whitt, event coordinator. “Last year, we made gift baskets – Kleenex, hand lotion, the fuzzy socks with grips on the bottom so they don’t fall, throw blankets and things like that.”
The event begins at 10 a.m. with a poker run from the group’s club house at 2230 FM 79. The last bike is due in 3 p.m. The run features a $500 top prize. Entrants will get forms for the poker run at the club house. Registration is $20 for individuals and $25 for couples.
“They’ll get a draw sheet and a map,” Whitt said. “They’ll have five stops – in Novice, in Detroit, Pattonville, the Harley shop and back at the club house. At each of those stops, they’ll draw a card, and it’ll be marked on their sheet. High hand wins the $500 prize.”
The event also includes live music, and of course, all-you-can-eat barbecue starting at 4 p.m. for $10.
This is a first for the organization, although members did find other means of raising money last year.
“Last year we did a bake sale and a couple of little things,” Whitt said. “We decided to do big or go home this year.”
The bikers also plan to raffling off a few items to raise money for an injured motorcycle rider and his family.
