Team Impact takes to the stage at First Baptist Church this weekend.
Rallies are scheduled for 6 p.m. Saturday and 11 a.m. and 6 p.m. Sunday. The event is free and open to the public. Dr. Tommy Turner, the pastor, suggested arriving early as each is expected to fill up fast. First Baptist Church is located at 207 S. Church St.
The team is a group of athletes that includes champion power-lifters, former WWE wrestlers and former NFL football players who travel the globe motivating and inspiring people of all ages.
Turner said he has worked with the Dallas-based group in the past.
“We just really thought Paris needs that impact,” he said. “They use feats of strength to grab the kids’ attention. What they’ll do is talk to the kids about making good choices in life.”
Turner said he has received compliments from teachers and administrators at area schools where Team Impact has visited. The organization takes into account problems facing young people today and speaks to students about the dangers of drugs and alcohol and enforces the importance of education.
“So you look at these supermen – ‘The Incredibles,’ ‘No Ordinary Family’ – that’s kind of what these guys are,” he said. “That alone kind of catches the student’s eye. Another thing that catches their attention is the way these guys communicate. They are super communicators.”
It’s not just for kids, however. The performers adapt their message to parents and adults, as well.
“As adults, we have the same kind of choices kids have. We have choices we can make that are the result of the next year of my life, the next 10 or 20, eternal choices, things I’m going to live with eternally,” he said.
“We will have a lot of dads there each night. Men are attracted to this. They speak to men and fathers about, ‘You are the one leading the families. What kind of choices are we making? You have a responsibility.’”
