The stated purpose of the Singing Cadets is “to enhance the public relations of Texas A&M University though musical presentations.”
The group started in 1893 as an all-male glee club at what was then known as Texas A&M College. A group of students got together in 1937 to write a constitution and establish the choir as an official organization. A student naming contest renamed the glee club the Singing Cadets in 1940.
The Singing Cadets are comprised of male Aggies who volunteer their time for long rehearsals and more than 70 performances each year. Their schedule includes a 10-day tour between the fall and spring semesters, three weekend tours in the spring to the Dallas, San Antonio, and Houston areas, as well as national and international tours.
They have performed around the world from the United Kingdom to Australia to South America, as well as at special events and even for presidents.
