Summer is here and lots of things are happening in historic Downtown Paris.

Tonight Main Street’s Movies in the Park presents The Blind Side. Bring your family and a blanket or some lawn chairs out to Bywaters Park about dusk to watch a great movie under the stars.  Concessions are available.  Also makes a great date night.

Next week June 30 through July 3, NXS Gallery on Clarksville Street will offer both children and adult art classes.  See the previous  article for details http://www.eparisextra.com/downtown/2014/06/18/nxs-gallery-offers-kids-camp-and-adult-classes/89429

Also next week on July 1st, one of the most attended event downtown returns.  Gospel on the Plaza will take place around the fountain from 7pm to 9pm.  The music is amazing so you won’t want to miss it.

On  Monday July 7th, Good Morning Texas will be filming live on the Plaza at 9am.  The City of Paris is encouraging all interested citizens to come down to the plaza to help support and promote our city.  You can even bring a sign or like “Bonjour Ya’ll” as seen on the Today Show.  Details to follow here on eParisExtra.com.

Farmer’s Market will continue to have Wednesday night hours through mid-July in addition to its usual Saturday morning hours.  Lots of fresh vegetables are coming in, so come down and get so great homegrown farm to market produce and other goodies.

In other news, many downtown supported attended Lamar County Commissioners Court Monday to voice support of continued maintenance of the old historic Post Office building.  With as much excitement as there is around the $800,000 park being developed across from the old Post Office, it would be tragic to see the county abandon it in favor of a metal building.  As the old Post Office could not be used for virtually any other purpose, it would ultimately have to be torn down if not maintained.  That would be a tremendous loss of our history.  Reach out to your county commissioner and encourage them to think about the long range effect their decisions could have.  More details regarding Monday’s meeting can be found by clicking here.
