98th Anniversary of Great Paris Fire of 1916
This historic fire burned practically everything in its path from the southern edge of the city of Paris to its northeastern limits.
This tragedy resulted in a great comeback story, as citizens began to rapidly rebuild. What makes the Paris downtown area unique today is that it is home to one of the largest collections of 1916-1918 period buildings in the nation.
In two years, Paris will recognize the 100’th anniversary of the Great Paris Fire. Plans are already underway for a Fire Festival to celebrate the 100th anniversary. For those interested in more information, contact Cheri Bedford, Paris Main Street Coordinator at 903-784-9293.
