Local rock band Stone Rosevelt is returning to the Three Brothers Drafthouse stage in Sun Valley to perform this Friday, January 25, with Greenville-based country band Small Town Ruckus at 10 p.m.
After having met through local online forums in 2009, Stone Rosevelt was formed by vocalist/guitarist Chad Farris, guitarist/vocalist Chris Shoemate, bassist Joe Hime, and drummer Nick Burton.
After recording several songs and performing in several places in Texas, tragedy struck the band in early 2010 with the passing of bass player Joe Hime.
While Stone Rosevelt was initially struck by Hime’s untimely passing, the band soon recruited bassist Ben Alsup for the band’s return performance at Crosswire when the band opened for alt-rockers Marcy Playground in August 2010.
When asked to describe his band’s sound, lead guitarist Chris Shoemate told the eParisExtra that he’d rather let the fans decide what genre to label his music.
“Some people call us grunge rock, some call us southern rock,” Shoemate told the Extra. “We like to let everyone make up their own minds about us. At the end of the day, we are a rock band who loves playing the music that we want to play.”
The band, who can be heard on local radio station MyRock 96.5, takes influence from a wide array of rock bands including Nirvana, Van Halen, and blues guitarist Eric Clapton.
“We have a blast playing and I hope that shows through in each performance,” Shoemate said.
Three Brothers Drafthouse is located at 804 Shady Grove Road in Sun Valley. Tickets are $5 at the door; for more information, call 903-982-7111.
