For this year’s 4th of July celebration, a few Paris musicians decided to create an event that would bring in Independence Day 2012 with live music, good times, and a festival – something for celebration and the Paris music scene.
Planning for Paris, Texas’ first Independence Day Music Festival immediately went into progress. The event coordinators and creators, Alex Addy and Kenneth Thornhill of local band, Alex Addy & the Tambourine Machine, only had about four months until this Independence Day from the birth of this idea, so the two had to move quickly.
They began contacting fellow bands and before they knew it they had a full line-up of local bands that were willing to help bring this FREE event together.
Initially the plan was to have the event downtown and outside, but due to some timing issues, it had to be moved to the Depot. This move was in no way a bad one, now patrons can escape the Texas heat and have the ability to watch two stages.
However, this will be an annual event, and according to coordinators, next year’s music fest will hopefully be downtown with vendors, live music, art, and other forms entertainment.
Planning for the 2013 Independence Day Music Fest is already underway.
Thanks to some Facebook promotion, radio, word-of-mouth, and other media sources, this year’s fest has gained some major steam and a good turnout is expected.
“It’s free and it’s fun,” stated event coordinator, Alex Addy. “We hope that everyone can make it.”
“We’re really looking forward to a good turnout. It’s a great time for an event like this; all the best bands in Paris, all together at once for a free show,” added fellow project coordinator Kenneth Thornhill. ”It’s to celebrate a great holiday when it’s really too hot to be outside anyway. It’s a great idea.”
So, on Wednesday, July 4, a slew of local artists will be performing at the Depot for the 1st annual Independence Day Music Fest. The event will start at 3pm and will go until 2am. Remember, admission to this is absolutely FREE!
“I think it’s great to see so many local and regional artists of various genres get to together to celebrate the 4th,” said local radio personality for My Rock 96.5, Chad Lindsay, about the event. ”For these artists it’s not about the money (it’s a free show), it’s about the music. I have nothing but respect for that!”
Chad and My Rock 96.5 will be at the Independence Day Music Fest to promote the shows and watch the bands. He has had a major helping hand in the growth of our Paris music scene and this festival. Not just with the radio station and the promotion he does there, but by actually coming to these events and supporting these acts from Paris and the surrounding areas.
To add to the festival vibe event coordinators have set up two stages for entertainment. All the full-band acts will play inside on the stage and acoustic acts will perform on the back patio.
Some of the best bands from Paris will be playing with the Tambourine Machine and the Done Deals headlining this event. The music will start at 3pm at the Depot in Paris, Texas. Below is a list of bands in the order of scheduled appearance.
