On Friday evening, April 27, 2012, That Guy’s Coffee & Listening Room will host a folk music class, as well as an amazing concert, by two guys that know it and play it well. This will be no ordinary show, the E-Flat Porch Band, sporting the slogan angst-free acoustic, is no normal band, and That Guy’s is a very unique venue.
The E-Flat Porch Band, making their return to The Listening Room, hails from Texas and consists of ‘one man band’ extraordinaire, Rudy Littrell, whom calls himself a ‘recovering percussionist’, and has the abilities to play 4 instruments simultaneously – acoustic bass, harmonica, high hat, and an old wooden Dr. Pepper soda box that he kicks a beat on. Beside him sits Duane Brown, the guitar strummer and harp blower. He plays dobro and shows astonishing slide work with his playing. He’s been known as a singer since singing Roger Miller songs to all is neighbors in his early childhood.
The E-Flatters try and bring an understanding to folk music and its roots through a very entertaining introduction to the history and influences of the genre during their set – enabling the audience to see the influence of folk in today’s music.
As well as being very talented songwriters, carrying forth the true tradition of folk roots in their own creativity, they also show the influence of many pioneering artists in the genres of folk music, blues, classic jazz, and swing.
Some usual tunes you will hear at one of their concerts would include, but are not limited to songs by artists like Lightnin’ Hopkins, Mance Lipscomb, Woody Guthrie, and other Texas artists.
They recognize and respect the influence that artists like this have on musical trends everywhere and try and bring that understanding with them to each performance for the audience.
To open the show, Brock Garrison, will brandish his awe-inspiring talent. If you’ve not seen this young sensation perform, you’re in for a big surprise. He’s been featured on the local TV show, Rockin’ L Music Roundup, and has quickly become an up-and-coming talent in the local music scene.
The performance will be Friday, April 27th, at 7:30 PM. You can purchase tickets at http://www.thatguyscoffee.com/lrconcerts.html, and if you have any questions please call That Guy at 903-272-9687.
You won’t want to miss this show, the coffee, or the excellent pecan waffles that are always served. Come out and support your local venues and entertainers.
