Paris in iPhoneography – Round 4 – More Views, More Photos

After three previous posts of Paris in iPhoneography, it is safe to say that the people of Paris enjoy looking at their beautiful town through technological art. Since the first post, a couple of weeks ago, and through to the most recent one, the Anniversary of the Great Fire of 1916 on March 21, the Paris in iPhoneography series has gotten well over one thousand views.

This means a lot to the Extra and for that we’ve decided to do another round of shots that we’re taken yesterday by our iPhone photo enthusiast, Danci Smith. The next one will come out in celebration of the 30 year anniversary of the tornado that destroyed a lot of our city on April 2, 1982.

Speaking of tornado, here’s a ‘fun filled fact’ about Paris and our Eiffel Tower. In 1993 we constructed a 65ft replica of the Eiffel Tower on the south side of the Love Civic Center. Several cities in America with the name “Paris” were beginning to do this.

In 1998 — after Paris, Tennessee constructed a slightly larger replica tower measuring 70ft — our city decided to add a large red cowboy hat atop our tower to give it the true Texas touch, most likely as a response.

Believe it or not though, the Eiffel Tower you see now next to the Civic Center is not our first one.  The first was constructed of wood and was destroyed by a tornado, later being replaced by the one you see now with the hat.

Another interesting fact for you music lovers: Elvis Presley, rather early in his career — October 1955 — performed on the Louisiana Hayride tour with other greats like Jerry Lee Lewis, June Carter, and Johnny Cash. During this tour the Hayride made a stop at the Boys Club Gymnasium downtown, 1530 1st Street Northeast, for a performance.  The ‘King of Rock n’ Roll’, deemed by many, has walked on our city streets right here in Paris, Texas.

If you have any suggestions, questions or comments about the Paris in iPhoneography series, please email these to josh@eparistexas.com.  You can also order prints in any size or color of your favorite shots.  Just email what pictures you want to the email above and we will set you up.

Let’s try and get as many views to these photos as possible, so that everyone can see the beauty of this town.  We’ve already broken well over 1000 views with the last posts, and we will continue to add new pictures with new articles as the days go on if you guys want them.  Any feedback would be much appreciated.
