Here is a health check to run on your chip shot. Check on your weight distribution at setup and through the shot. At address it ought to be about 60 % on your front foot (left foot for right handers) and stay there throughout your swing. Even the best golfers can get into the habit of allowing weight distribution to even out at address or to transfer weight through this shot. Those who are less skilled or who suffer from the short-game yips will have a tendency to move their weight to the back foot.

MODERN GOLF SHOES: UNSUNG HEROES
Is your footwear the most low-tech equipment in your golfing arsenal? Just a pair of shoes with studs? That’s how I used to treat them. But then I got to know about things like ‘shear and vertical forces’, which place heavy demands on golf shoes. Then there’s the distance we cover during a round (you’ll walk up to 5 miles), variable topography and unpredictable weather conditions. Top notch shoes won’t make you a champion, but the wrong ones certainly damage your game.

How do your golf shoes measure up in these areas? If they fall short, contact me or come in to the Golf Shop and I’ll be happy to get your swing onto the right foundation.

Last week I discussed two of the keys to accuracy. Although we used the Driver in the examples, these keys apply to all clubs. Here are two more aspects of accuracy I suggest you work on:

There’s a lot of talk about adjustability, with all the major manufacturers now offering an adjustable Driver. This means these clubs are no longer a single model, but multiple clubs in one Driver. But beware; that doesn’t mean there are tens, or even just ten models that will work for you. And placing the ball deep down the fairway is about more than adjusting loft and face angle or tampering with weights. There are four keys to accuracy I want you to note on the chalk board. Here are the first two.
