PJC Paris Campus offers continuing education course in June

Paris Junior College’s Continuing Education Department has scheduled a variety of courses for the month of June, according to Dr. Charles George, Associate Dean of Workforce Training and Continuing Education. Unless otherwise noted, classes are held in the Bobby R. Walters Workforce Training Center on the north side of the PJC campus.

 

 

Child Care
The Child Care Workshop meets the continuing education requirements
for child care employees. The workshop will meet from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on
Saturday, June 23.

Child Care Pre-Service is offered on a need basis. Call 903-782-0447
for information.

Computer
A Microsoft Excel Essentials class will meet from 6-8 p.m. each
Monday and Tuesday, June 18-26. This is an electronic spreadsheet class.

Microsoft Word Essentials will be offered in a choice of two time
frames. One class will run from 10 a.m. to noon each Friday, June 1-22. An
evening class will be held from 6-8 p.m. each Monday and Tuesday, June 4-12.
This word processing class offers instruction to create professional looking
documents.

Welcome to the World of Computers is for the novice or beginner
computer user. The class is scheduled from 9-11 a.m. each Wednesday and
Thursday, June 13-21.

Driving
The Driver’s Education class meets from 4-6 p.m., Monday through
Thursday, June 18 through July 16.

The Defensive Driving course will meet from 6-9 p.m. on Monday and
Tuesday, June 18-19.

Truck Driver Training information may be obtained by calling

Health
A Nurse Aide class is scheduled from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday
through Thursday, June 4-20.

The Pharmacy Technician course will be held from 6-9:30 p.m., each
Monday and Wednesday, June 4 through July 25. For more information call

An Initial Basic Life Support will be offered from 5:30-9 p.m. on
Wednesday and Thursday, June 6-7. An alternate class will be held from 8
a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Saturday, June 9.

The Basic Life Support Re-certification is for current CPR certified
card holders. This class will be held from 8 a.m. to noon on Friday, June 8.
It will be repeated from 5:30-9:30 p.m. on Tuesday, June 19.

The Dental Assistant course will meet from 6-9:30 p.m. each Tuesday,
Thursday and Saturday from June 5 through August 16.

Parenting
The Kids Hurt Too Seminar will be offered from 6-9 p.m. on Tuesday,
June 5. This seminar is designed to help parents understand the needs of
their children throughout the process of divorce.

Personal Enrichment
A Beginning Genealogy class, “Where Are Your Roots?” will meet from
9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, June 16.

Memory, Your Secret Weapon will be offered from 3:15-4:15 p.m., each
Tuesday, June 19 to July 17. Memorization techniques and tips will be
offered during this class.

Workforce Education
Coaching: A Leadership Skill will meet from 6:30-8:30 p.m., each
Tuesday, June 5-26. This workshop will help participants understand how
effective coaching can benefit both the individual and an organization.

A Professional Supervisor workshop will be held from 8:30 a.m. to
4:30 p.m., each Saturday, June 23 to July 7. This workshop explores the
scope and nature of the supervisory position.

North Lamar Boy’s Basketball Camp – June 5th – 8th

K – 2nd             8:00 a.m. – 10:00 a.m.            $35 before May 27     ($40 after May 27)

NL Panther Baseball Camp - Players will learn the basics of hitting, fielding, pitching, and game situations.

NL Pantherette Basketball Camp - The camp will focus on improving individual basketball fundamentals at a higher level, as well as teaching team offenses and defenses in a more competitive environment.

This will be for girls who will be in the 4th – 9th grades during the 2012-2013 school year.  Cost is $50 and includes the choice of a camp t-shirt or camp basketball.

North Lamar Volleyball Camp - The camp will focus on form and technique in such areas as serving, passing, receiving, setting, spiking, blocking, offense, defense, and scrimmage time.

July 16-19 (Monday – Thursday) for girls who will be in the 5th – 9th grades during the 2012 -2013 school year.

National Honor Society Inductee a First for PJC’s Surgical Technology Program

Denison PJC’s first Association of Surgical Technologists National Honor Society Inductee The Paris Junior College Surgical Technology program experienced a first with their pinning ceremony on Thursday. Amy Denison of Sulphur Springs is the first PJC student to gain entry into the Association of Surgical Technologists National Honor Society. Aside from the 4.0 grade average and 100% attendance maintained throughout the course of the program Amy distinguished herself through academic and clinical achievements exceeding the standards expected of top students. Demonstrating a keen interest in knowing, achieving, and maintaining the highest standards of the profession, Amy met all the requirements deemed exemplary of the AST National Honor Society and was inducted April 23 as a lifetime member. Denison is shown with her certificate and Surgical Technology Coordinator Norman Gilbert.

Aikin Elementary Book Drive – It’s Like Trading Books!

Bring a gently used book from home. During the last week of school, all students will receive a book to read over the summer.  Please bring your books to the Library on or before May 28.
