The works of playwright Sam Shepard will be the focus of the Seventh Annual Student Showcase, presented by the Paris Junior College Department of Drama. The showcase will be held this Friday and Saturday, April 25 and 26, at 7 p.m. in the Ray Karrer Theater on the Paris campus.

“Though many might recognize Sam Shepard’s film career,” said PJC drama instructor and showcase director Alex Peevy, “it is his career as a playwright that has garnered such immense respect in the acting community. Shepard’s scripts are known for their twisted plots, gritty characters, and haunted families, set against desolate southwestern backdrops.”

PJC drama students will present four scenes from Shepard plays, including a scene from “Paris, TX,” as well as a selection of poems.  Scene work includes “Fool for Love” with Austen Naron and Paige Collins; “Action,” with J.J. Freelen, Derek Dacus, Samantha Turner, and Elizabeth Schneider; “Curse of the Starving Class” with Taren Sartor, Cody Rice, and Kaytlyn Zimmer; “Paris, TX,” with Haley Hines and Riley Collard.

Reading poetry and serving as crew are Schneider, Rice, Turner, Tori Hunt, Jessica Gallaghan, Marcus Kraut, and Zimmer.

The showcase is an integral part of Paris Junior College’s performing arts season and it gives patrons a chance to see what has been worked on in students’ courses.

Admission is free and the public is invited to attend. For more information call 903-782-0488 or email pjcdrama@parisjc.edu.
