The Student Government Association (SGA) elections at Paris Junior College concluded this past week.
The nomination and election process resulted in a run-off for the two freshman representative seats on the Paris campus.
Now SGA can turn its attention to the business of being the voice of students and serving as student leaders of the college.
The final election results are:
SGA’s first major activity is painting a home this Friday and Saturday for a Habitat for Humanity Brush with Kindness project, a project that has been in the works since last spring.
The club will assist with the PJC United Way Kickoff on Oct. 16 and a chili cook-off in November. That month they will also volunteer as bell ringers for the Salvation Army.
Coming up soon is the PJC Homecoming Parade on Nov. 7, which the SGA will oversee, as well as the Homecoming King and Queen nomination process.
Another community project SGA will assist in this year is the Downtown Food Pantry in Paris; and food drives are planned that will involve all students in Paris, Greenville and Sulphur Springs.
One student leadership conference that SGA members will participate in this year is the annual SGA Region III meeting, which will be held at Navarro College on November 15.
Derick Waugh, PJC SGA’s newly elected president, is the SGA Region III president.
“We’re looking forward to a great year,” Student Life director and club sponsor Kenneth Webb said.
The SGA will hold weekly meetings each Monday at 12:30 p.m. at the Paris campus, and meetings are open to all students. On the first and third Monday of each month, all representatives (Paris, Greenville and Sulphur Springs) will meet via interactive television so members may communicate in real time.
All PJC student clubs have a designated representative serving as a member of the Student Government Association.
According to the SGA constitution each student organization or club has one automatic membership, which promotes inclusion from all student groups on campus.
