The Paris ISD School Board approved the 2014-15 budget last night at a regularly scheduled board meeting. The budget includes raises for all PISD employees.
Board members Tracy Bawcum and Regina Williams were both sworn in for new terms. The current board officers will remain the same with George Fisher as president, Dr. Bert Strom as vice-president and Becky Norment as secretary.
During the meeting, the board also approved the recommended hiring of new teachers, extended the dumpster service contract and renewed the custodial service contract.
During the May meeting, the board was given information regarding the possibility of offering free lunch to all students. However, business manager Tish Holleman told the board last night that since they are uncertain of how logistically the program will work and if it would affect funding and grants, they are not going to proceed at this time. Hopefully as other school districts in the state begin to offer universal lunch, those issues will be resolved. Current state laws do require PISD to offer Universal (free) breakfast on four of PISD campuses.
The board also approved the new local policy guidelines that were rewritten by a TASB consultant, except for two policies that Superintendent Paul Jones felt needed to be pulled and rewritten.
