Paris High School junior, Timothy Nelson, competed May 24-27 at the 2012 Special Olympics Summer Games at the University of Texas at Arlington and is now the top male pentathlete for the state of Texas in Track and Field.
In the pentathlon, athletes receive points based on their times or marks and the highest total wins. Nelson competed in the 400 meter dash, 100 meter dash, running long jump, high jump and shot-put. He excelled in all five events, ultimately winning first place with a gold medal-winning total of 2,735 points.
Nelson is coached by LaTonya McCarty and Elizabeth Cole.
The Games featured over 3,400 athletes from around the state.
