NLHS theater department, flamingoes join forces for fundraiser

flocking1In an unusual sight for Lamar County, flocks of pink flamingoes are showing up at homes around the area and making quite a theatrical display.

The plastic birds are part of a fundraiser for the North Lamar High School theater department through the end of the school year.

“You have to pay $15 to be de-flocked,” said theater teacher Cody Head. “You can buy $5 insurance to not be flocked again. You can also choose the next flocking victim.”

Toni Preston, a fifth-grade teacher at Bailey intermediate and “theatre mom,” heard about the idea from a friend. The project is raising funds for productions in the fall, including William Shakespeare’s Titus Andronicus and Disney’s Beauty and the Beast.

“Watch out,” Head said. “They will flock you.”
