A $400 Home Depot gift card purchased by the North Lamar High School FOR Club will be given to Columbine Memorial Park in Littleton, Colorado, to help purchase plants, trees, and gardening supplies for the park.
Opened on September 21, 2007, the Columbine Memorial was designed as a place of peace, comfort, and reflection for remembering all those who were touched by the events of April 20, 1999, at Columbine High School, those who were injured, and thirteen lives that were taken that fateful day.
The Friends of Rachel (FOR) Club’s mission is to put into practice the kindness and acceptance of Rachel Scott, whose example of kindness and compassion was brought to light when she became the first victim in the Columbine High School tragedy. Stemmed from stories of Rachel’s life and writings, the practice of making a positive impact on others by reaching out in word and action is what Rachel called “a chain reaction of kindness and compassion.”
North Lamar’s FOR Club meets throughout the school year. This year the students have helped restock the Downtown Food Pantry and have read books and shared the ‘chain reaction of kindness to kindergarten and first grade classes at Higgins Elementary. Sponsor for the club is Jan Bell.
