North Lamar Independent School District will hold a Meet the Teacher and Back to School Bash for elementary students Aug. 22. Bailey Intermediate, Aaron Parker Elementary Everett Elementary and Higgins Elementary schools have included events for students and their families on each of campus.
Inflatable slides and obstacle courses will be set up in the gyms of the elementary campuses. The Boy Scouts of America will serve nachos provided by Taco Casa in each cafeteria.
“Due to the heat, activities will be held inside at each campus and plenty of bottled water will be on available,” North Lamar Parent Volunteer Coordinator Nikki Moss said.
Parker Principal Tammie Bates said kindergarten students at the Powderly campus may begin meeting their new teachers at 4 p.m., and first through fifth graders will have a chance to meet their teachers half an hour later. Activities are planned from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. in the gym.
Students and teachers at Bailey Intermediate, Everett Elementary and Higgins Elementary will get acquainted in a similar fashion, starting at 4 p.m. with entertainment and food in the gyms until 5:30 p.m.
“Parents are encouraged to stop by the counselor’s table at each of the elementary campuses for information on how to help their child with homework, bullying, cyber safety, making friends and more,” said Bailey Principal Missy Starnes. “They can also sign up for a conference with the counselor and parenting workshops on the topics in which they are most interested.”
Frank Stone Middle School students will pick up schedules and meet their teachers from 4 to 5:30 p.m. on Aug. 23. High school students will pick up their new schedules at 7:30 a.m. the first day of school in the “B” gym.
Classes for all North Lamar students begin Aug. 26.
“The first of school is always exciting for students and teachers,” said Higgins Elementary School Principal Claudia Pursifull. “We are looking forward to a great year at North Lamar.”
