North Lamar’s ‘Triple Threat’ receives highest honor

image006North Lamar senior, Cody Eilrich, under the guidance of Kristi Hodgkiss, has earned the degree of Premier Distinction – the National Forensic League’s highest degree of student membership.

Each year, fewer than 500 high school students achieve Premier Distinction status, placing them among the top half of one percent of League members.  This accomplishment reflects sustained excellence in classroom activities, competition rounds, and service projects.

Furthermore, the success of the program at North Lamar High School speaks volumes about the support of the NFL’s vision – that every child in the United States will be empowered to become an effective communicator, ethical individual, critical thinker, and leader in a democratic society.

In an increasingly global society, the ability to communicate, listen, and persuade is more crucial than ever.  Participation in forensics enables students to succeed in the classroom and beyond.  It improves critical thinking skills and fosters increased tolerance and respect among peers.  Not surprisingly, students who have received speech and debate training go on to become leaders in business, government, science, journalism, and education.

“Cody has worked very hard to become a ‘triple threat’ in the speech and debate world, and as a result has been successful in debate, public speaking, and drama,” said Hodgkiss.  “He is easily the hardest working student I have this year on the squad, practicing for hours after school almost every day and attending almost every tournament available during the year.  It is wonderful to see his hard work pay off.”
