Members of the 2011-2012 North Lamar Symphonic Band are featured in a compilation CD of the National Winners in the Mark of Excellence Wind Band Honors CD.
North Lamar High School Band, directed by Randy Jones, has been selected as a National Winner in the Mark of Excellence / National Wind Band Honors project.
The Mark of Excellence consists of the National Wind Band Honors, National Choral Honors, National Orchestra Honors, National Jazz Honors, and National Percussion Ensemble Honors. It is a competition, entered by recordings, in which the top quarter is selected as National Winners and the second quarter receive Commended Honors. This year 184 of the finest musical ensembles in the nation entered the competition. The project has now received entries from thirty-five states.
The band adjudicators for the project were: Gary Garner, former Director of Bands at West Texas A&M University; James Keene, Band Director Emeritus at the University of Illinois; and Larry Livingston, Professor of conducting and orchestra at the University of Southern California.
As Class AAA National Winner, the North Lamar Symphonic Band will receive recorded and written comments from the adjudicators and a compilation CD of the performances of the National Winners.
