Everett Students Grow Chalk Garden

Paris, TX, May 2012 – While observing North Lamar’s ‘Go Green’ effort and a way to go paperless for the day, Melissa Lewis’s third grade class at Everett Elementary took to the sidewalk to grow a chalk garden after reading The Chalk Box Kid by Clyde Robert Bulla.

After moving to a new town and coping with many new things, the book’s main character, Gregory, finds that he does not have a yard to grow a garden so he drew a garden mural on the walls of an old chalk factory behind his home.  The North Lamar youngsters grew their own chalk garden by using their imaginations to draw various fruits and vegetables along the campus’s sidewalk.
