Dickerson’s 20 points leads PJC past Coastal Bend

BEEVILLE, Texas — Delvin Dickerson scored 20 points and Nouhoum Bocoum 18 Monday night as Paris Junior College defeated Coastal Bend 76-59.

The Dragons improved to 10-4 overall and 3-1 in Region 14 play going into Wednesday night’s game with Jacksonville College. Coastal Bend fell to 6-5 and 0-4.

Delvin Dickerson had a big-time night for us. That’s the kind of performance we’ve been expecting from him,” PJC head coach Chuck Taylor said. “And big Nam (Bohoum) did what he does. We got another double-double out of him (double digits in both points and rebounds).”

Tony Kimbro led the Cougars with 19 points. He was their only player in double figures. Paris had two other players in double figures — Trevon Seymore with 14 points and Jovan Austin with 12.

With 1:49 left in the first half, Coastal Bend led 25-24 and there had been five ties and 14 lead changes when the ball went out of bounds with just one second left in the Dragons’ possession.

The in-bounds pass came to Seymore in the left wing, and he got off a shot in almost the same motion. It found nothing but net.

That was the start of a 20-point run — the last 11 points of the first half and the first nine points of the second half — that put PJC out of reach.

Seymore scored 10 of the points himself, including a fast-break bucket at 19:39 of the second half, following a steal.

At the end of the run, the Dragons led 44-25, and it was all over but the shouting.

“Seymore is the glue. We feed off him,” Taylor said.
