Workforce Solutions presents annual awards
Workforce Solutions Northeast Texas recognized an area employer and Board member for their contributions to the Northeast Texas workforce system during the organization’s Workforce Summit on September 12 at Texas A&M University – Texarkana.
Priefert Manufacturing was recognized as the Local Employer of Excellence and Employer of the Year for Northeast Texas. While economic times have been tough on the manufacturing industry in Northeast Texas, the company continues to thrive. Over the course of the last year, Priefert has hired many employees to maintain and grow its workforce, creating approximately 100 new jobs for the Mt. Pleasant/Titus County region. The leadership at Priefert work closely with the Workfoce Solutions office in Mt. Pleasant for all of its staffing needs by posting all of its job openings on WorkInTexas.com, conducting interviews at the local workforce center and participating in all local Workforce Solutions job fairs. The company is an active advocate for workforce training and works closely with the Northeast Texas Community College. Priefert Manufacturing also provides material, equipment, and instructional support for training programs at NTCC, and actively recruites from all regional trade schools and communtity colleges. It is also a supporter of the “Make It Work In Texas” initiative to promote careers in manufacturing to area youth.
Board Member Rosalie Oliver of New Boston, Texas, was recognized with the Board Member of the Year award. Oliver, owner of Bookkeeping Services, has served the board for several years, many of those as the Board Secretary. Her nomination read: “She has always been a champion for the Board, has taken an active role in all assigned committees and served as the de facto historian of the Board when advising the Executive Committee or new Board members on matters involving past practice or precedent. She stood by the organization through very difficult times when others abandoned ship. She has always been our most faithful cheerleader. ”
The Board also recognized four outgoing Board members for their service to the organization: Robert Bunch of Nash, Texas, Barb Weems of Atlanta, Texas, Dr. Lynn Dehart of Mt. Pleasant, Texas, and Beverly Logan of Mt. Vernon, Texas.
Workforce Solutions Northeast Texas is one of 28 workforce boards across the state providing assistance to employers and job seekers. The board’s mission is to be “a driving force” in the area to provide employers with workforce support for the economic benefit of the communities served. The organization serves a nine-county region in Northeast Texas including: Bowie, Cass, Delta, Franklin, Hopkins, Lamar, Morris, Red River and Titus counties.
