The Big Kahuna

With his knowledge, experience and love for the sport of monster truck racing, Shane England, of Powderly, made what some would call a HUGE decision and purchased the monster truck, ‘The Big Kahuna’ (pictured here).

photo 2That name is no joke — ‘The Big Kahuna’.  This truck is huge.  Just the tires are close to, if not over, five feet tall.  Despite its enormous size, the truck was built for speed also, and has been driven in ‘Monster Truck Jams’ all over the country.

If there’s a family around here that could benefit from such a big truck as this, it is the England’s.  Shane and his family — son, Ty, and wife, Laurie — are the owners, drivers, managers and crew that make up the professional racing team that is Kahuna Motorsports, which is based in Powderly and participates in a number of professional dirt track races all over the country.

Most people in the ‘biz’ would call this a ‘dirt modified’s racing team’, but Shane has also competed in monster truck races, driving for other teams, and now with the purchase of ‘The Big Kahuna’, their team won’t just be ‘racing dirt modified’s’ anymore.

Ty England, who just turned 17-years-old, has experienced just three years of racing as a driver, but many more than that watching and learning from his father, making him quite the talented racer.  In that short three year period, Ty already has ten wins in the ‘Sport Compact’ division and has now been moved up into the ‘Sports Modified’ division.

Shane, who races ‘dirt modified’s’ also, in the Outlaw Open Wheel Modified division, really has always had the biggest passion for monster trucks — competing in ‘monster jams’ as a driver for Flame Motorsports, El Matador and King Krunch.

This young child could not seem to comprehend how large ‘The Big Kahuna’ is. All he could do was smile while sitting inside the tire of the truck.

“I have raced some monster trucks for other teams,” Shane stated outside Lamar National Bank.  ”Since then, it’s always been my goal to purchase my own monster truck.  Today I did it.”

Shane says it takes a lot of funds to be in the monster truck racing business, so it helps to have sponsors such as, Bell Racing, Kicker Car Audio, All-Star Graphix, Subsea Solutions, Mark Wornhor Racing Engines, Advanced Automotive & Diesel, Awesome Racewear, & Bodyguard Truck Accessories.

Be looking for this truck — ‘The Big Kahuna’ — at the Monster Jam level very soon.  There are many upcoming events that Shane will be driving the new truck in.

Shane lives with his wife, Laurie, and his son, Ty, in Powderly, Texas.  Be listening for the name ‘Kahuna Motorsports’ in the racing world, as young Ty moves up in the ‘Dirt Modified’ racing divisions by claiming more and more wins, and now, Shane, has ‘The Big Kahuna’.
