Historic Downtown Paris has Hi Teck Computers

Downtown Paris is home to several shops and antique stores. And it’s also gone Hi Teck.

Hi Teck Computers has been in business for seven years. David M. Stewart originally started his business across the street but moved to his current site about three years ago. His address is certainly easy to remember: 123 Clarksville.

“That’s my business model,” he said. “Keep it simple.”

The layout of his shop is simple, as well. He has one corner dedicated to a kiosk where customers can try out his computers for sale. His sales counter stands nearby, and across the room is his work station.

“I don’t take your computer behind a door,” Stewart said. “You walk in the door, and you see me working.”

He will have the building paid off this month. Stewart said he likes working downtown, which is seeing a resurgence.

“I like my old building. It’s got a quality that’s utilitarian. There’s a lot to my work that’s like that,” he said. “I love downtown. There are a lot of hard-working people downtown who have a lot of passion. I like to consider myself one of them.”

Stewart has worked on computers since 1996. He has been A+ certified since 2000, a designation that shows competence in areas such as installation, preventative maintenance, networking, security and troubleshooting.

“I can pretty much troubleshoot and diagnose a problem quickly and tell you what you’re going to need,” he said. “I’m real precise, and I get your stuff out the door. I have a real efficient method here.”

Most repairs take less than 48 hours, and he tries to make sure the computer is fixed the first time.

“I cater mainly to small businesses, but I also cater to individuals and walk-in customers,” Stewert said.  “I try to cover the whole gamut from a person on a budget to a small business with computers and a server.”

Hi Teck sells and services computers, as well as data management and networking. Stewart offers refurbished Dell laptops and desktops, as well as a few other machines. He only sells computers with Intel processors and chip sets. He can help maintain or install network systems, clean viruses off of computers, replace hardware and just about everything in between.

“All my systems are tuned for maximum efficiency instead of the default settings,” he said. “I go to the extra labor of making sure Windows is tuned for performance ranter than aesthetics.”

If a customer needs a computer repaired because of viruses or malware, Stewart makes every effort possible to restore the system to avoid data loss. Reformatting and wiping a hard drive is the last resort.

That same care for the individual extends to his larger customers, as well. He advises clients to back up data on a regular basis. When setting up a network, Stewart makes sure the processes and programs they need are readily accessible.

“I can make any computer right out of the box operate twice as fast on average, based on the right Windows tuning,” he said. “Hi Teck is a place to get your computer fixed.”
