On Sunday, June 1st at approximately 8:30pm, Paris Police arrested 36 year old Mitzi Elaine Black of Paris. Black was observed in the 1700 block of Pine Bluff St and was known to have outstanding Municipal Court warrants. Officers later found methamphetamine in her purse and she was subsequently charged with possession of a controlled substance in a drug free zone. Black is currently awaiting to be arraigned.
Last night, at about 11:58pm, Paris Police responded to a call of a disturbance in the 10 block of NW 17th St where it was reported that Damion Odell Johnson had assaulted his ex-girlfriend.
It was reported that Johnson had held a knife to the victim’s throat along with choking her to the point of not being able to breathe. Johnson fled the scene as officers were attempting to speak with him about the incident. Johnson was taken into custody after a short chase. Johnson was charged with aggravated assault, assault on a family member by impeding breathing, interference with an emergency phone call, resisting arrest, and evading arrest. Johnson was later transferred to the Lamar County Jail.
Also on Sunday at about 1:53pm, 28 year old Justin Scott Crawford of Commerce was arrested by the Paris Police when officers responded to a call of a theft in the 3800 block of Lamar Ave. It was reported that Crawford was observed leaving the store with several pieces of electronic equipment that he did not pay for.
Before officers arrival, Crawford had fled on foot but was located in Applebee’s and arrested. It was later found that Crawford had previous convictions for theft and therefore, this new theft charge was enhanced to a felony. Crawford was later transferred to the Lamar County Jail.
